Pringles Speaker
Do you have a guilty pleasure snack? I'm an avowed chocoholic but my true snack lust is reserved for Pringles. I love the crispy potato stacks and their tall proprietary cans with the seldom-needed plastic lids… as they've said "once you pop you can't stop." This is particularly true of flavors like pizza, sour cream and, uh, tabby kitten.
Okay, there is no kitten flavor, you caught me. Still, if you're indulging in some Pringles binges this summer, you might want to save your receipts. Through Halloween 2011, if you mail in receipts from four Super Stack cans and an official redemption form, you'll receive a cool little speaker doohickey that plugs into your iPod and uses an empty Pringles can as an amplifier. Like so:
I have to say the sound quality is not bad and this is definitely the loudest MP3 plug-in speaker device that I've tried. It runs on 3 AAA batteries and also works on a full can, but the bass sounds better with the empty can. I wasn't really expecting it to be so nifty. Bob actually snatched it to use while working on his garden trellises today. Roo ate all of the Pringles!
Great excuse to do some snacking this summer!

New Sugar Free Ring Pops
My kids are candy whores. It's sad but true. Every morning, I wake up to cries for candy. Pathetic. Even though I resist the urge to give in to their incessant whining, I am totally afraid that their teeth will be rotted out by the time they're old enough for braces. Argh.
Anyway, we received a package of new Sugar-Free Ring Pops to try and both kids went berserk. See, they come in a package of three (Blueberry, Watermelon, and Strawberry) and I have two kids. Do the math. They were arguing over the third lollipop before they'd even tried their first! In fact, they were so distracted that the whole "sugar-free" concept slipped by them entirely. Here is the evidence that the Splenda-sweetened pops are just as delectable as the original version, at least by Roo and Jasper's calculations.
Oddly, these newfangled new Sugar-Free Ring Pops still give kids a sugar high. They are less sticky and messy, though, so that's a big plus.
Available at Walmart and BJ's stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com and ShopTopps.com.

Kmart Backyard Makeover Sweepstakes
Have you seen Kmart Outdoor Living? The mini-site compiles some great summer backyard makeovers that Social Fabric community members have been working on over the past few month. They run the gamut from simple additions (a grill, some new cushions) to patio conversions worthy of a spread in your favorite home magazine. I've been surprised and impressed with the selection and design that seems to be pumping out of the new Kmart: great brand names, super values, and newfangled style.
Another reason to get excited is the Kmart Backyard Makeover Sweepstakes: like the Kmart Fan page through July 20, 2011 and fill out the entry form to be eligible to win amazing prizes. One grand prize winner will receive a backyard makeover valued at $4,000 from Kmart with a design consultation from lifestyle blogger and DIY style expert Courtney Milton from French Country Cottage. Three randomly-selected weekly winners will each receive a $250 Kmart gift card. Enter now!
If you have young kids, you might also want to visit Kmart's Playdate Place for articles and toy reviews that can help you plan the best get-togethers for your family.
In accordance to the FTC Guidelines and WOMMA Code of Ethics, I am disclosing that I have been compensated as a campaign leader for Collective Bias but I wasn't asked to post this information– I just thought you might want to enter. All opinions are, as usual, strictly my own.

Fascinate: Your 7 Triggers to Persuasion and Captivation
Sally Hogshead is an author, speaker and consultant whose specialty is finding the best approach to anything. She can tell you how to sell more units, engage more potential consumers, get invited to cooler parties. That sounds like a wide stretch, but at its core, branding– from the marketing campaigns of the biggest multinational companies to the seemingly innocuous lipstick choices of the single girl on a manhunt– is based on targeting the same essential human emotions. In Fascinate: Your 7 Triggers to Persuasion and Captivation, Hogshead breaks it all down in a style that is both informative and highly entertaining. Her sense of humor is pervasive, like the college friend you love because she will call you on your bullshit and make you own up to it. She's smart, she's funny, AND she can see right through you. (Yikes!)
I'm not a gigantic fan of marketing books or business books, in general, due to a math block that stops my brain from working whenever money or statistics take center stage. Fascinate isn't all case studies and bar graphs, thankfully. Hogshead uses storytelling, charm and dry wit to delineate her seven core Fascination triggers (Lust, Mystique, Alarm, Prestige, Power, Vice, Trust) in an engaging signature style that makes it as fun and compelling to read as a Cosmo quiz…albeit one with some serious business chops. This book reads conversationally, like Freakanomics or any of Malcolm Gladwell's best-sellers, because it's just as much about humanism and cultural anthropology as it is about money or business. Hogshead believes that we, as a culture, have moved swiftly from the Information Age into the Fascination Age, on a personal and professional level. "Information is no longer hard to find," she writes, "Search engines changed all that. Now, data are a commodity. What's scarce? Complete focus. Information isn't power– the ability to fascinate is power." Obviously, we all have some serious work to do in order to remain fascinating and persuasive. And, indeed, relevant at all.
Learning how to balance your Fascination triggers and utilize them in different contexts can make you incredibly persuasive. Dabblers in astrology and pop psychology as well as devotees of Briggs Myers and Jungian personality tests will certainly want to take Hogshead's F-Score brand personality test to see where they fall in the Fascination spectrum. When you take the F-Score test, you receive your results in an email with the suggestion that "Once you understand your own unique combination of personality strengths, you can start to create more influential ideas and messages." Being a Scorpio who likes to cover my bases, I took the test and met my triggers: Rebellion and Passion were my primary and secondary and Alarm was my dormant trigger. Umm, yeah, sounds about right.
Figuring out what makes you tick ostensibly helps you to understand what you're projecting onto the universe. It makes you a better marketer/salesperson/human being to get your Fascination triggers aligned. As Hogshead writes, "…fascination has little to do with what you say, and everything to do with what you inspire others to say about your message. Fascinating people, like fascinating companies, don't try to explain why they're fascinating." Indubitably, but I do feel compelled to share this additional insight that she shared with me regarding my F-Score:
Oooooh I have to admit, I do love the Rebellion/Passion combo! Our teams calls this "The Creativity Igniter." You're innovative, irreverent, and love to tweak the rules.
You bring tremendous energy to the things that matter most to you, which makes you immediately fascinating to others. Some people might even have trouble keeping up with your big mental leaps, because you so quickly conceptualize things before more others can connect the dots.
And though you get bored quickly, you know how to stir up just enough trouble to keep things interesting.
Wouldn't you love to be described thusly? Take Hogshead's F-Score test and let me know what your triggers are in the comments below. I'm curious to see how all my friends stack up, aren't you? If you've read Fascinate, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
In accordance to the FTC Guidelines and WOMMA Code of Ethics, I am disclosing that I received a stipend to purchase the book and facilitate this review. As usual, though, all thoughts are my own. I'd like to mention this chestnut that Hogshead offers up about the prestige trigger: "The word "classy" isnt when it's spelled with a k." Oh, and the Human League song totally fits, right?

Last Minute Father's Day
Breaking News: Father's Day is tomorrow.
If you haven't planned ahead, you can always take a walk down the hardware aisle and come up with something useful and giftworthy. 3M Fuel X2P Safety Eyewear & 3M Forceflex Safety Eyewear are easier on the eyes than traditional safety goggles– remember how cool everyone looked in science lab? Not. They look like cool guy sunglasses but protect your paternal loved one's eyes from projectiles while he's doing yard work or making pretty things for you in his workshop.
They come with a snazzy little pouch and a cord to keep them tethered, in case your guy is a wee bit forgetful. I think the Fuel are slightly heavier duty and more innocuous looking but the Forceflex have kind of a Terminator vibe. Either way, they're not gigantic or made of clear nubbly plastic that makes you sweat.

Pampers Little Miracle Missions (Giveaway)
***CONGRATULATIONS, susanlanai!!!***
her comment...
I'd love to use it for our neighbor. She's a single mom and I know she'd appreciate a little miracle.
This year, Pampers turns 50. That means for five decades, they have been at the forefront of bottoms. (Yes, I made that up. Clever, right?) Instead of celebrating in the traditional decadent and self-congratulatory manner, Pampers launched the Little Miracle Mission campaign. It's kind of a "pay it forward" project where missions - usually a simple, helpful act or kindness that celebrates babies (new little miracles), mothers and parents - are launched on the Pampers Facebook page. When enough people commit to the mission, Pampers continues the support through a series of impactful pledges of their own. Over 42,000 people have supported the cause since April, when Pampers donated over 30,000 care packages to families and babies in 800 NICUs across the country.
Jasper had to spend his first week in the NICU so I can imagine how significant those care packages must have been, giving families less to worry about so they can just concentrate on their baby. I was given a $50 gift card to perform my own Little Miracle Mission for babies or new parents. Suggestions of how to use the money included buying diapers for a family in need, preparing meals for a family, or even use the money to host a larger fundraiser for a family. I went mommy-ward, since one of the things that new moms often overlook is doing anything for themselves. I bought a bunch of makeup and nail polish to donate to Dress for Success. Read on to see how you can win a $50 gift card to perform your own Little Miracle Mission.
In honor of Father's Day, the most recent Little Miracle Mission encouraged participants to pledge various acts of kindness for dads. The overwhelming response has led Pampers to throw “First Father’s Day Cook-Out” celebrations across the country for new and expecting fathers, providing them with the recognition that they deserve. Last night at at Stage 37 in New York City, celebrity fathers, including Entertainer Drew Lachey, Actor (and first-time dad) James Van Der Beek, New York Jets Running Back Shonn Greene and Film Director Alejandro Monteverde (along with his wife, Actress Ali Landry) kicked off the inaugural “First Father’s Day Cook-Out” celebration. Now through Father's Day, “First Father’s Day Cook-Out” celebrations will also be held in cities across the country, including Boston, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, and Washington D.C.
In accordance to the FTC Guidelines and WOMMA Code of Ethics, I am disclosing that I received a gift card to put toward the charity of my choice. As usual, though, all thoughts are my own.
To enter and win a $50 gift card from Pampers to perform your own Little Miracle Mission, please comment below and let me know what act of kindness you would use it for.

Father's Day Idea- PhotoJewelryMaking.com
Okay. Father's Day is one week away but you slackers still have time to make something personal and meaningful, even if your DIY skills are sorely lacking. I'm not talking macaroni necklaces or neckties, either. PhotoJewelryMaking.com, the Michigan-based family-owned and operated photo jewelry supply superstore offers a variety of elegant gift ideas that you can customize at home using your own printer.
We tried the Father's Day Easy Change Photo Cufflinks Kit. It comes with everything you need to make a pair of heavy weight silver cufflinks with your choice of images, including EZ Photo Resizer software (Mac and PC compatible) and a sheet of photo paper. All you have to do is resize your images to 15mm circles, print and cut them out. Then simply unscrew the cufflink and insert your photo with the protective plastic over it, then rescrew it and you're good to go.
My stepfather is the only man I know who wears tuxedos on a regular basis so I think these will make a great Father's Day gift for him, with a picture of Roo and Jasper on either cufflink. I like how easy it is to change to photos out, so you could conceivably update the pictures as the kids get older. (Or fall out of favor…) You could also use pictures from favorite teams or pets, or even a pretty patterned paper or thin fabric. There are lots of possibilities! If you have need of several pairs, like for a wedding party, there's a multi-pack available.
In accordance to the FTC Guidelines and WOMMA Code of Ethics, I am disclosing that I received the item featured in order to facilitate this review, which was made possible by Mom Spark Media.

Free Father's Day Cards from Company Kids
If you haven't already lined up a kid-produced masterpiece for next weekend, Company Kids is offering free downloadable Father's Day cards on their Facebook page. They're blank so your kiddos can customize them to their hearts' content. I recommend plenty of glitter and glue, perhaps a finger-painted portrait or a handprint.
By the way, you might also want to check out Company Kids' Clearance Sale for great bargains on clothing, furniture and bedding- all made from the high quality natural fibers that are a Company Store tradition. My current wish list: the jersey/tulle ruffle skirt and fair isle knit sidecar boots for Roo and the military-ish terry knit jacket and long sleeved tie tee for Jasper. There are some amazing deals on holiday finery and winter gear, too, if you are good at planning ahead.
In accordance to the FTC Guidelines and WOMMA Code of Ethics, I am disclosing that I have received complimentary merchandise in the past from Company Kids but chose to share this information with you on my own volition because I like their stuff!

Ansel & Clair’s Adventures in Africa App Review
Roo and Jasper are iPad hogs. They like the iPhone, too, but the big touchscreen is totally irresistable to them. The saving grace of their obsession is the steady stream of quality apps that are as educational as they are entertaining. Yes, they spend way too much time watching potentially inappropriate videos on YouTube, but they also like the read-along books and learning games.
One of the best apps we've encountered is Ansel & Clair’s Adventures in Africa, which lets kids explore the continent at their own pace and in their own style. The eponymous characters, an alien and a robot, lead children on a learning safari that takes full advantage of the iPad's functionality with audio, video, and game elements that can be accessed independently. The illustration and design of the app are fantastic but what I find most impressive is that it completely engages both of my kids, even though Roo is 7 years old and a proficient reader while Jasper is just shy of 4 and still learning his alphabet. Both of them have spent hours immersed in Ansel & Clair’s Adventures in Africa without having to ask for help or instruction. In fact, sometimes they'll even play it together!
There are innumerable interactive functions to discover, some of our favorites are the spinning globe, the tilting pyramid maze, the photographic travel log, the wipe-away raindrops and sand. You really have to see it in action to understand how different it is than its competitors. This video will give you a great overview:
Ansel & Clair’s Adventures in Africa is a member of Moms with Apps, a collaborative group of family-friendly developers seeking to promote quality apps for kids and families.
We're hoping Ansel & Clair have more travel planned for the near future… maybe to Asia next?
In accordance to the FTC Guidelines and WOMMA Code of Ethics, I am disclosing that I received a complimentary download code to facilitate this review. As usual, though, all thoughts are my own.
