#CouchCritics Oscar Screening: Inception

I don't get to see as many of the Academy Award-nominated movies as I'd like. Since we were actually invited to an Oscars party this year, we thought we'd try and rent some of the Best Picture nominees that we'd missed on the big screen. It's a great excuse to snuggle up and eat some popcorn! Our screening was sponsored by Orville Redenbacher Pop Up Bowls but, unfortunately, they are not available at our Walmart yet.

This week we watched Winter's Bone and Inception. I don't have a lot to say about Winter's Bone aside from the fact that I'm very, very happy that my life isn't much like that of druggies in the Ozarks, thank goodness. (I kept teasing Bob because he's from West Virginia but he wasn't amused.) I had high hopes for Inception because I really liked Christopher Nolan's earlier film Memento. Like that film, Inception is a twisted, dark semi-mystery that plays on emotions and the concepts of memory and loss. Here's the preview:

Inception is visually stunning and full of twists and turns, although I had heard there was a surprise ending and I wasn't particularly surprised. It's also almost three hours long and kind of dragged at points. I liked the more sci-fi elements and gorgeous cinematic effects but the human aspect was lacking for me. I didn't buy the chemistry between Leonardo DiCaprio and Marion Cotillard and honestly kept confusing the plot with Shutter Island, which we also watched fairly recently. It was okay but not necessarily my pick for Best Picture. (I'd be more apt to pick The Social Network or True Grit.)

Since the Orville Redenbacher Pop Up Bowls weren't on shelves at our Walmart yet, I used kernel corn and a microwave popper for our screening night snack. (If your Walmart has them, you're in luck! Here's a sweet $1.00 off coupon.)

Here's a Whrrl of my shopping trip and movie night:

Introducing Raisels

Raisels are fruity-flavored, mouth-puckering golden raisins that taste like sour candy. Unlike other fruit snacks, they are made from 100% dried fruit and contain no sodium, HFCS or artificial sweeteners. Each serving of Raisels packs 100% US RDA of Vitamin C. (You know, in case you're worried about scurvy.)

I will be frank. I was really excited about trying Raisels because they're touted as a candy alternative and my kids are candy junkies. When the samples arrived, I opened them immediately and noticed that they actually do contain sugar, which I wasn't expecting so I was a bit disappointed initially. It's important to note, though, that Raisels are sweetened with real sugar and natural flavors, so they are not filled with the questionable additives that their candy brethren are made of.

In fact, Raisels contain less added sugar than sweetened cranberries. They are also incredibly delicious and come in five different flavors: Sour Apple, Sour Orange, Sour Lemon, Sour Watermelon and Sour Peach. The boxes are a convenient size for a quick treat or lunchbox surprise and contain a reasonable 110 calories. Roo and Jasper liked them immediately.

For more information, follow Raisels on Twitter or like Raisels on Facebook.

Being a Foxy Bombshell

The following review/giveaway is for adult eyes only because it involves sex. Mommy and daddy sex. (Everyone under 18 just clicked away, right?) No super explicit stuff here but the links might contain NSFW content. Consider yourself warned.

Pink satin panties don't sound particularly sexy to me. For some reason, pink satin has always reminded me of quilted housecoats and glamourous matrons. Oh, and the Pink Ladies from Grease, naturally. I think they were supposed to be sexy but I thought they were more silly. Anyway, I'm telling you all this because I have discovered truly sexy pink satin underpants at Babeland.com and they are called the Foxy Bombshell Panty. See for yourself:

Pretty, right? But are they sexy? Moderately. They're smooth and silky with a little stretch that makes them super comfy and snug-fitting. But the kicker, what really makes the Foxy Bombshell Panty live up to its name, is the enticing black satin ribbon that ties in back. Lift it up to reveal just a teensy smidgen of butt cleavage. Yes, I am totally aware of how ridiculous that sounds but this is miles away from plumber butt, people.

The Foxy Bombshell Panty is saucy and provocative without being a g-string, with a retro naughty charm. Bonus points for actually being able to wear them as real underpants (comfortable and they won't fall apart in the wash) and not just as bedroom cosplay wear. They also come in a pretty adorable gift box, should you care to bestow them upon a loved one:

You might also be interested in the Pin-Up Panty, a sheer black ruffled confection. (I know I'd love to receive a pair!)

Yoplait Light Two Week Tune Up

***WINNER PICKED 3/17 WITH RANDOM.ORG***

***CONGRATULATIONS, Melissa!!!***

her comment...
I need a 2 week tune-up so I can get in shape for my bathing suit.. vacation in Jamaica is coming in 3 weeks!

The last few days have been an amazing respite from the harsh winter. It's been fabulous to be able to go outside without a heavy coat or big, furry boots. On bright, sunny days it's not hard to get motivated to exercise and eat right, but I'm afraid we've got another round of arctic chill to get through before we can truly spring forward. I refuse to let slushy weather let me fall prey to comfort food and couch potato-dom! There's still plenty of time to lose weight and get back into the fitness groove before bathing suit season; I just need a plan.

Here's an easy one to try: Yoplait Light´s Two Week Tune Up Plan. By making a few lifestyle changes (like simply substituting your regular breakfast and lunch for a Yoplait Light yogurt, a whole grain, and a fruit and walking daily), you can lose five pounds in two weeks. The Yoplait website features useful weight loss tools such as a meal planner, healthy recipes and a daily food and exercise tracker to help you reach your goals.

I received a motivational kit from Yoplait and MyBlogSpark including a gym bag, wrist wallet and pedometer as well as coupons to try the Two Week Tune Up. I've been trying it out and although I can't say I've lost much yet, I haven't gained anything, which is just as important to me in this winter hibernation season. There are 33 flavors of Yoplait Light to choose from, so my tastebuds never get bored.

Click here to download a printable coupon for $0.75 off the purchase of four (4) Yoplait Light yogurts.

To enter and win a Yoplait Light Two Week Tune Up kit similar to the one shown above (including a gym bag, wrist wallet, pedometer and coupon for one cup of yogurt), please comment on this post with your reason for needing a Two Week Tune Up or your favorite Yoplait Light flavor.

Entries will be accepted through March 17th and I'll pick the winner using Random.org. US readers are eligible.

What's the Matter With Kansas?

The Kansas Arts Commission is under fire from our new Governor. If he gets his way, Kansas would be the only state in the Union without an Arts Commission.… not necessarily something to brag about. Senator Roger Reitz, a Republican from Manhattan, is presenting a resolution that would override the Governor's proposal. Reitz is presenting his resolution in Topeka on Thursday, March 3, for the Federal and State Affairs Committee, at 10:30am in Room 144-S. For the Kansas Arts Commission to remain active, this resolution must pass the Senate. Kansas Citizens for the Arts hopes that many of us will make the trip to have our voices heard.

Here' a great audio overview of the situation, including an interview with Sen. Reitz, from Public Radio International's Studio 360:

If you're a Kansan, please consider contacting your lawmakers in support of Reitz's resolution and also showing your support by attending Arts Day at the Capitol on March 3rd.

Everyday Food for iPad

The March issue of Martha Stewart Everyday Food is out today on iPad and the cover photo is enough to make me salivate. Grilled cheese with tomato soup is one of my all-time favorite meals and I simply did not have the patience to wait for the print version, since it won't be on newsstands until Monday. Let me tell you, the digital magazine has all sorts of bells and whistles, including videos, slide shows, animations, and scrolling recipes but my very favorite function is the ability to email recipes from within the app and also build your own recipe library to keep your "keepers" easy to access. It's as reliable and aspirational as you would expect, with droolworthy photography and elegant design. Mmm. Total eye candy.

The Martha Stewart Everyday Food iPad app is $2.99 on iTunes. (And, yes, I did buy it myself. I'm a big spender!) Read more about it and watch a behind-the-scenes video on the Everyday Food Blog at MarthaStewart.com.

Pioneer Woman: Black Heels to Tractor Wheels

I've been reading The Pioneer Woman for years, so I was excited when I was asked to review her new book, Black Heels to Tractor Wheels: A Love Story. I'd already read much of it as it was posted on the blog but it was a treat to have everything neatly printed and bound in a format I don't have to scroll down to read.

This book underscores my deep-seated need to be invited to stay at The Lodge. Seriously, it's only an hour or two down the highway from Wichita. I'll even bring our basset hound, Stella, since I know Ree's partial to her kind…

I hadn't picked up The Pioneer Woman Cooks: Recipes from an Accidental Country Girl when it came out last summer, so I decided to splurge and get a two-fer and try my hand at some of her vittles while I read the novel.

I decided to make the Perfect Enchiladas and I must admit, they were pretty much perfect. Bob is an avowed enchilada-hater and he couldn't stop eating the things. Seriously, we had them for days until they were completely gone. And they might even be more delicious as leftovers! Here's a Whrrl story about shopping for the ingredients and making the enchiladas:

Comfort food at it's finest, with plenty of great photos and backstories. The story of Ree's courtship with Marlboro Man is enough to make even the most hard-hearted cynic swoon– even if you don't like reading romances, her playful sense of humor and her brother Mike's antics will keep you amused. A must-have for ardent fans of The Pioneer Woman and a treat for newcomers.

Sex toys - EdenFantasys adult toys store

So, yesterday was Valentine's Day. If you forgot, or said you wanted to "wait to celebrate until the weekend," it's not too late to find the perfect token of affection. What to give your true love when chocolate and champagne doesn't seem like enough? Well, in my case, a carnitas burrito was more than sufficient (it had a heart sticker on the wrapper!), but maybe your significant other demands something more permanent and, uh, carnal. Something that you can enjoy together. Something that buzzes.

Well, my friends, EdenFantasys has you covered with plenty of naughty gifts in all shapes and sizes, ranging from the innocuously-shaped, bubblicious Yooo vibrator (perfect for Barbapapa lovers who love lovin'!):

Or maybe some exotic epicurean fare like the Chocolate Dreams kit from Kama Sutra:

If you're really hard-core, you might need a sex swing or the serious equipment (I never knew "sex furniture" was a product category) by Liberator:

To enter and win a $50 gift card to EdenFantasys, please comment on this post with your favorite item from their site.

Entries will be accepted through March 10th and I'll pick the winner using Random.org. US readers are eligible.

Noctis Threads

Noctis Threads is a new streetwear brand for guys and girls. They sent me a glam wreath tee and I can attest to its softness and good quality although if you're not uber petite (like me!) you may want to size up- the size small tee they sent fits Roo as a nightshirt.

I am obsessed with their owl logo:
